The story of Abraham and his unwavering faith has always been a bedrock in Christian life and discipleship teachings. His is a tale that resonates across generations, illustrating the magnitude of faith, obedience, and the extraordinary outcomes that result from putting faith in our almighty God.
This blog reviews the lessons we learn from Abraham’s story, focusing on the importance of faith, obedience, the journey through uncertainty. Be prepared to learn about the many benefits that faith can yield.
Faith and Its Transformative Power
Faith lives at the core of Abraham’s story. “By FAITH,” Abraham, when called to venture into the unknown, obeyed and set out without knowing where he was headed. This act of faith was not a passive agreement with God. Instead, it was an active and intentional response to God’s call. Abraham’s journey teaches us that faith is not about the assurance of what we see but the conviction in what we do not see. Faith transcends all logic and reasoning, prompting us to believe in the possibilities that lie beyond our limited, very limited, perception.
Here, there are two things I want you to note:
- Faith Requires Action:
Faith is not merely a feeling or belief; it demands action.
Abraham’s decision to go as he was directed, without knowing the destination, demonstrates the active nature of true faith. It’s a compelling reminder that faith compels us to take steps even when the path is unclear. Just GO! OR… as Nike says, “Just Do It!” - Faith Transcends Understanding:
Faith requires us to move beyond the need for clarity, blueprints, man-made CONFIRMATION, and understanding.
Abraham’s journey was FULL of uncertainty and lacked clarity about the future. Yet, his unwavering trust in God’s promise propelled him forward though Abraham could not even fathom God’s promise for his life. This highlights the reality that faith operates in the realm beyond human understanding. To think that you can understand, be sure about, or agree with, God’s plan for your life is to erode the stepping stones needed to put FULL trust in God.
Obedience and the Walk of Faith
Obedience is another pillar of Abraham’s story. His obedience to God’s call, despite the uncertainties, exemplifies the depth of his faith. This unwavering obedience was not blind but was rooted in his deep trust in God’s faithfulness and promises.
- Obedience Leads to Blessings:
The narrative shows that obedience to divine guidance opens the door to unimaginable blessings.
Abraham was promised descendants as numerous as the stars, a promise that seemed impossible but was fulfilled because of his obedience. - Obedience Involves Sacrifice:
True obedience may require us to sacrifice our plans, understanding, and comfort.
Abraham’s readiness to leave everything behind and embark on a journey at God’s command teaches us about the sacrifices that obedience might entail.
Embracing Uncertainty with Faith
Abraham’s journey was fraught with uncertainty. Yet, it was his faith that sustained him through doubt and fear. (#MESSAGE!) His story is a testament to the power of faith in navigating the unknown territories of our lives.
- Uncertainty is Part of the Faith Journey. (Period!):
Your human mind cannot help but feel doubtful at times. Consider this to be a pure-hearted part response to God’s thoughts being BIGGER than our own AND the result of Him blessing us “exceedingly, abundantly, ABOVE all we could EVER ask or think.” So when a doubt creeps up, don’t panic! NOR let it linger. Because slowly and surely, doubt chisels away at faith. Besides, the Word of God tell us to trust Him and NEVER doubt (Proverbs 3:5-8, James 1:6), so… don’t stay there, friend.
Abraham’s experience illustrates that uncertainty is an integral component of the journey of faith. It’s through walking in uncertainty that our faith is tested and strengthened. - Faith Offers Assurance Amidst Uncertainty:
Even as Abraham ventured into the unknown, his faith provided him with a sense of assurance and hope, which means we must BELIEVE the promises of Our Lord so that we can overcome doubt! This teaches us that faith can be our anchor to offer us stability and confidence even when the future seems uncertain.
The Rewards of Faith
The story of Abraham culminates in the manifestation of God’s promises—promises that seemed impossible. Through his faith and obedience, Abraham became the father of many nations, an inheritance that far exceeded his expectations.
- Faith Leads to Divine Fulfillment:
Abraham’s life is a clear example that faith leads to the fulfillment of divine promises. His descendants, as numerous as the stars, were a direct result of his faith and obedience to God. - Faith Transcends Human Limitations:
The narrative underscores that faith has the power to transcend human limitations and understanding. What seems impossible with man is possible with God.
In conclusion, the story of Abraham is not just a historical account but a living, breathing witness of the POWER of faith! It teaches us to trust in God’s promise, even when the road ahead is unclear, intimidating or downright NUTS! These types of mysteries remind us of who our God is! LIMITLESS possibilities unfold when we walk in obedience and faith in God.
Be blessed.
